Kingman Retreat
We took a couple of days’ retreat in Kingman, AZ. It’s 3400’ above sea-level in the Hualapai valley, between the Cerbat and Hualapai mountain ranges. It sits at the juction of I-40 and US 93. It also sits on old Rt 66 in northwestern Arizona.
During WW11, it serviced an airbase that housed hundreds of B29 bombers, assembled by ‘Rosie the Riveter’. The base trained pilots and gunners for the B29s,
Kingman is experiencing a growth spurt, with many fleeing the high housing prices in California. But gentrification is taking place there, along with lots of new housing. I was told the average price for new construction is $1,000 per sq ft.
Its altitude of 3,400′ keeps it cooler than most other cities in Arizona. Tucson at 2,000’ above sea-level is 5 to 7 degrees warmer on average, and Phoenix, at only a little over 1,000’, is hotter yet.
To be Continued…

PS: I’m starting to run out of historical incidents, ready at-hand, so I’ll be interspercing more recent incidents, too. This will involve me skipping back and forth in time. Hopefully, it won’t get too confusing…
