Early Youth – A Distant Memory
When very young
Got lost and cold
Spanked for running
Out in the road
Escaped from
Rope-tied pants
By taking them off
Lived by the radio
The Shadow Knows
SciFi movies and
Then TV black and white
Then came color
78’s became 45’s and 33’s,
Went from HiFi to Stereo
Then 8 track and cassette
Then MP3’s
Dog house
An early get-a-way
Basement sanctuary
Skipping school
First grade delinquent
Caught and rectified
Frequent bickering
Especially sib #2
Two-wheel bike lessons
Completed with
Cinders dug from
Elbows and knees
Vision corrected by
The age of three.

Cheery painting to go with a poem that transports me back to my childhood. Perfect for a gloomy Sunday. 🙂

Thanks, Kat! I’m pleased that the poem and painting speak to you. Sorry you’re having a ‘gloomy Sunday’. Mine is sunny, if colder than I’d like. Listening to Pandora as I write, my ‘Nightnoise’ (musical group) channel…; -)

Most welcome.🙂
Yes, gloomy here…heavy overcast skies with rain moving in later tonight.
What’s “Night Noise” and where is it?

Nightnoise is a Celtic musical ensemble that I became aware of in the ’90s. I think they were produced by the Windum Hill studios with the likes of Micheal Hedges, Tuck & Pattie, Liz Story, Will Ackerman, and such, to name a few… Nice easy background music when I’m writing…; -)

I found them on YouTube and gave a listen to part of the album “The Parting Tide”, and ended up downloading it. Nice…

That’s a nice album, I’m still partial to the first one I heard from them, Shadow of Time … there’s an interesting cut called Mouth Music…; -)
