There’s So Much Beauty

There’s So Much Beauty

there’s so much beauty
in the world all around
but I find it difficult
to praise it with all
the poverty and pain
that abounds

gazing at sun-drenched
landscapes with mountain
vistas fading in the distance
brush and critter-filled
riverbed winding north
the path of least resistance

social and economic promise
is nothing but bleak
while the apex-predator
the ‘elite’ of the human freaks
guts the beauty for his own
greed’s sake

time for a new paradigm
with community and nature
extolled as prime
rather than greedy self-interest
of the psycho-sociopaths in
our world’s ruling classes

there’s so much beauty
in the world all around
but I find it difficult
to praise it with all
the poverty and pain

and it will worsen if we don’t
make a profound course change

    • I guess you don’t want to answer this question, so I’ll give you my answer.
      What I would change—
Though I know it would mean a much harder life, I would return the world to pre-industrial times. As Toby Kieth sang “I should have been a cowboy”, or a least a cowboy’s woman.

      • Sorry for the delay… You answered your question before I saw it. So, to respond to the question… What I’d like… I’d LIKE to see more cooperation between people, a more responsive government as far as meeting the needs of ALL its citizens, etc, etc… But I’m, among other things, a philosophical Taoist and realize that all things continue to change, and usually in a way that doesn’t represent my interests. And I’ve accepted that.

‘A cowboy’s woman’? Are you saying you’d prefer the patriarchy and chovanism of the 19th century to the current zeitgeist? Color me curious…; -)

      • Yes…at least then people knew what was expected of them—both men and women. Now, we have women who think masculinity is toxic, and men who are so beaten down they’ve given up trying to please any woman.
When I was a kid, I wanted to be a boy, but when I went through puberty was fine with being female. If I’d been born into our “enlightened” society, I’d most likely have been transitioned before I was old enough to know what I wanted. The world is a crazy place.

      • Transitioned? Not sure what you mean… ‘transgendered’ … against your will? Not sure that’s actually a thing, even in this f*(&ked up era. But then, I’m not sure what you mean? Do you mean like forcing a left handed individual to write with their right hand … which they did when I was young?…; -)

      • Yes, transitioned…I wrote incorrectly.
No, not forced; I probably would have begged my parents to let me transition if such a thing was an option then. I wanted to be a boy, thought I should have been a boy. I hated it when I had to wear a dress. I didn’t like girly things, instead opted to play Army, cowboys and Indians, and such with my brother and sister. She was a tomboy too, but I went even farther. Liam, I was actually pissed off that I was a girl. Most of the time when I dreamed, I was a boy in them. Then, like I wrote earlier, when puberty hit, my mindset changed. That’s one example I used of the world being a crazy place—allowing CHILDREN to make decisions of that magnitude.

      • I agree that chilren should not be making those kinds of decisions before they are mature enough to reason out the consequences of that type of choice, and how their minds and attitudes will change with the cocktails of hormones that are released during puberty. As a youth, I always preferred playing with tom boys to girls in general. Tom boys played as rough as I did… I was always jumping out of trees and off roofs, playing neighborhood tackle football and such, and of course, later, martial arts…; -)
