Only Six PM
only six pm and
already dusky-dark
house getting cold
turn on the heat as
nighttime temperatures
plummet
first, have to leave
comfortably warm
blanketed chair
close my tablet
put writing on hold
till I’m feeling warm
and bold … again, and
maintain till the next
dusky-dark six pm
in short six months
dusky-dark will creep in
around nine pm
but then I’ll need to
set the AC, mitigate
the sultry Sonoran night
and moonlit landscape 🌙

For a few weeks now, I’ll turn on the heat, and then it’s the a/c in a couple of days. Back and forth. Soon, it’ll just be heat.
I’ve been through the Sonoran Desert, but never saw it in moonlight. I imagine it’s beautiful.

Thanks for reading and commenting, Eleena! Yes, it is beautiful… a stark, alien beauty, unless surveying gardens (cactus and native plants or zen-type). I’ve been leaving the AC off in the daytime, just opening the doors to let the fresh, warm air circulate through the house, then turning the heat on after the house cools down from the day’s heat. Probably won’t need any AC until March or April…; -)
