Wistful Dreams Of My Childhood Home
the neon glow
of redbuds along the road
at half-past sunset
late spring peepers’ song
as snowdrops and crocuses
pushed their heads up
through the season’s
final snows
the first lions of spring
pushing up in sidewalk cracks
wild mustard turning
empty fields yellow
forsythia, crabapple and
bradford pear trees
brite white and pink
incandescent dogwoods
brightening householders’
landscaped facades
late spring beauty around
the inimitable great lakes
legacy of the last ice age
blue herons standing guard
on the shores and riverbeds
