Today 2025

my oldest son
was born today

not

actually this day

but decades past

we delivered him
at home
an old farmhouse
a mile outside of
town

caught him
even though
he was slick as
greased lighting

shot

into my outstretched
hands

cord cut
wrapped and
cuddled in
his mommy’s
arms

signed
birth certificate as
father – deliverer

above my
pay grade
so they say

it’s a piece of our
family history

a day we celebrate
as does he
