Walk Run Ride?

How often do you walk or run?

Daily, it seems I walk and walk and walk… I try to NEVER run … a waste of what little energy I retain. I also cycle many miles a week for pleasure, meditation/creative inspiration, and health … normally.

  1. I used to walk a lot—1 1/2 hours nearly every evening, and felt better for it. The last couple of years, I walked less and less for various reasons, one of them being multiple allergies. I think I’m allergic to about everything that pollinates around here. 🙄 I have a stationary bike I need to get back in the habit of riding. About 2 1/2 years ago, I slipped on ice and broke both bones in my wrist, and developed complications. Then, when I got over that, I herniated a disc in my lower back that took forever to heal. Then, I got lazy.

    • That’s terrible; I’m sorry you had to suffer those misfortunes.

Back in the early 2000s, after my divorce (the 2nd one), I was working out, that is, teaching Aikido 3 nights a week (MWF) and Tai Chi 3 time a week as well (T and Th nights and Sat morning), while working all those temp jobs as well. Had my 3 younges every other weekend. I was also riding on the old Eire Canal Towpath that ran from Cleveland to Akron OH, 30 miles away. I did it in 5 mile or so increments, out and back to my car, eventually riding the whole thing. Also, rode the paths in what is called the Emerald Necklace (National Parks around the Cleveland area). I cut that down considerably when I retired in 2010 and moved to Ashland KY, where I spent almost 10 years before moving to Tucson… I guess my point is that i’m doing far less in the realm of ‘working out’ than I’ve done for most of my life…

It’s not laziness to accept that you can’t do what you once did…; -)

      • When she was tired, my mother would say that she felt “lazy”. Maybe I picked that up from her. I tire more quickly than I used to, and try not to push it (most of the time), to sit down and rest awhile, then get up and start again.
I turned 72 a couple of months ago, and my mind has yet to come to terms with the fact I’m not the proverbial spring chicken anymore. 🫩

      • I get it… I do the same; there’s no need to berate ourselves for trying to keep ourselves ‘healthy’ (by resting as often as we need it). I had my 78th a couple of months back, too. Spent a few days at Lake Havasu… Happy belated…; -)

      • Ah, the same as a cousin/childhood friend of mine that died quite a few years ago. So many wonderful memories of her and her sister, with me and my sister, roaming the woods and wading the creeks around our two homes that were about a quarter-mile apart.
Now, when I think of her, I’ll think of you, and vice versa. A friend of my youth, and a friend of my old age. 🙂

      • Good friends, even virtual ones, are hard to find, especially the ones who stick with you when you go batshit crazy at times. And I’m glad you’re my friend, Liam. 🙂
