Born To Be Wild

Born To Be Wild
by Steppenwolf

Get your motor runnin’
Head out on the highway
Lookin’ for adventure
And whatever comes our way
Yeah Darlin’ go make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space

I like smoke and lightning
Heavy metal thunder
Racin’ with the wind
And the feelin’ that I’m under
Yeah Darlin’ go make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space

Like a true nature’s child
We were born, born to be wild
We can climb so high
I never wanna die

Born to be wild
Born to be wild

Get your motor runnin’
Head out on the highway
Lookin’ for adventure
And whatever comes our way
Yeah Darlin’ go make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space

Like a true nature’s child
We were born, born to be wild
We can climb so high
I never wanna die

Born to be wild
Born to be wild

  1. I loved that song when it first came out…just a couple of months later, something bad happened to me that I, from that point forward, associated with it. Can’t listen to it without remembering.

    • Kate, sorry to have stirred up unpleasant memories for you. That song came out in ’68. I was living in Ann Arbor at the time, and I was in my element, my first time really living on my own, very far from the ‘home’ of my youth…; -)

      • Yes, but for me, it was also good with weed or hashish… I used to smoke a lot back in the day … even a few cigarettes, though I gave them up long before I reached the age of 25…; -)

      • I smoked cigarettes from about the age of 15 to 30 before quitting. And though I drank some in my younger years (I quit during my pregnancy, though I don’t think Fetal Alcohol Syndrome was a thing then) I have never done any kind of drug, including weed. Weird, I know.

      • Not weird… I’m sure there are many who took the propaganda seriously and refrained. But from at least 18 on, I flouted and disregarded any and all ‘rules’. To this day, I hate authoritarians and so-called ‘rules’ that make no sense to me. The only thing I did stay away from was injectabels. I’ve always hated needles…; -)

      • It had nothing to do with propaganda…I just didn’t wish to partake. And the few times I got drunk in my life, I didn’t enjoy the feeling of losing control. I’ve had many mixed drinks over the course of my life, but always put the brakes on when I reach the tipsy stage.

      • I take your point. Yes, at least the first time, you need someone you trust to watch over you with some of the hallucinations. Weed is not one of those. It can put you into that ‘tipsy stage’ for a while, but you never lose control like when ‘falling down drunk’. But I don’t do hallucinations, speed, or even alcohol much anymore, thugh I do chew a gummy some nights to help me sleep…; -)

      • I’ve probably always been a control—of myself—freak. I can’t remember the last time I cried about anything, though I can tear up a little when I think about my parents and childhood. And I never lose control when angry…just get calmer. If I yell at someone, it’s a deliberate act.

      • Kate, it’s good to be in control, and it pleases me that you are … and although I am, too (mostly); if someone (trying to manipulate me) pushes the right buttons, I will definitely ‘lose it’, sorry to say. I hate to give anyone that kind of control, but, if one is smart, they don’t go poking the metaphorical tiger…; -)
