Save Our VA Protest – 10/17/25
Only four of us out walking the line today…
Observations from the Ajo entrance to the VA at shift change this morning (about 6:40am – 8:30am:
Only two middle fingers greeted us today; only about 60% of those entering responded and much less for those leaving; it appears that the new and more expensive the ride, the less likely to respond … and at the other end, the junkier the car, also not likely to respond.
On a separate note: a cadre of spandex weenies crossed the street at the entrance, and annoyingly (for them), they had to wait for the traffic light to change … it was a long light. One of the cars leaving was in the process of making a right turn past them when the walk light came on. The head weenie tried to jump out into the crosswalk and nearly hit the car. He then let out a slew of curses and jestures like the driver was at fault. It just goes to shoe that one doesn’t have to be an arrogant white-boy to be an arrogant anus… If fact, the more I see, the more I’m convinced that most of those who dawn the spandex and display all the ‘racing’ paraphernalia are just weekend ‘wariors’ or more likely have never ridden in a bicycle race of any kind… Just sayin’…; -)
I alluded to this last week. One apparently MAGA guy coming out of the VA started yelling at me that the shutdown was intentionally done by the Democrats. Why do people assume that anyone who doesn’t like the direction of the country belongs to the Democrats (I’m not, closer to the Greens than any of the other established ideologies)? First, I tried to point out that the Republicans are in control of all branches of the government and allowed the shutdown. Then he just started screaming obscenities at me. Well, I can sympathize with ignorance, but stupid? Sorry, but you can’t fix stupid; and intentional ignorance is just plain stupid. There, rant done…; -) –LE
PS: We will all be joining everyone else at the No Kings Rallies tomorrow.

Well, I can see we’re not on the same page here, Liam. The house passed a clean C. R. that would have kept government spending at its current level until Nov. 21st to give congress more time to hammer out a budget deal. But the senate voted it down, the reason being there’s a slim majority of republicans in the senate, and 60 votes are needed for it to pass. The democrats want 1.5 trillion dollars to reopen the government, including $200 billion in health benefits for illegal aliens, and tens of millions for climate resilience in Honduras, and LGBTQI+ democracy grants in the Western Balkans, to name just a few of their caveats for reopening the government. They are the ones who are keeping the government shut down. I did my homework. I am not stupid.
And the No Kings Protest…give me a break. Trump is no more interested on being a king than I am. IMHO opinion, it is TDS on display. I am not MAGA, but do the democrats have any policies to put forward other than “spend more money” and “seize more control” and “Trump is Hitler”?

Well, I certainly didn’t expect that! I read every single word of your comment (several times) and thought long and hard about it before answering. I hope you’ll do me the same curtesy…
“Me thinks the lady doth protest too much…”. Why is it that even though you’re not MAGA, all the points you’ve listed, I’ve recently read, almost word for word in the MAGA propaganda-sphere? I do my research, too.
I do not think you are stupid, Kate. Your comments and what I’ve read on your blog indicate abounding creativity and deep intelligence. But it does concern me that you’d take a rant against a MAGA nutcase, who first started badgering me because I was demonstrating against privatization or our local VA and then started cursing me, and interpret it as me calling you stupid. I’m sorry that’s how you took it.
I was trying to be not too controversial by stating that I’m closer to the Greens than the other partisan tribes. I did vote for the Green candidates in the last several elections, only because I follow the dictates of my conscience. In truth, I’m what all autocrats (kings, dictators, emperors, totalitarians, etc.) call anarchist… that is, I believe in direct democracy, that the governed have the right to choose their leadership… and the policies by which we are governed, and the right of the people to remove said leadership when they fail to serve us, an anathema to all authoritarians. So, yes, no kings protests … using my First Amendment right to show my displeasure with the attempted neutering of our excuse for a democracy. “Trump is Hitler”? No, Hitler’s dead. But from what he’s doing with the military and national guards, he appears to be trying to do Hitler one better… Just sayin’… Will he succeed? I doubt it … we, the people, are fed up with the ‘executive orders’ illegal renditions, and his trying to keep the GOP in power in perpetuity…; -/

I didn’t think you called me stupid. It bothered me a little that you labeled the guy as MAGA and stupid, like the two were synonymous. That said, I don’t think it right that he yelled at and cursed you.
Liam, you and I are about as far apart as night and day politically. I don’t know if we believe how we believe because of the way we were raised and/or life experiences. But, like you, I don’t hold any of that stuff against you.
