The Dry Season

The Dry Season

Dust and sand
In the dry riverbed

Cover grasses and shrubs
Returned to dormant colors
Flaxen, dull greens, and pale browns

No rain or even much dew
Humidity all but gone since
The latter days of March, too

Eager for the coming monsoons
Hopefully, before the end of June

Spokesmodels, the weather-models
Predicting imminent rain
40%, 60%, 80% chance they say

But only some virga grace the skies
On any given day

Just more false hope or fake news
Or just wishful thinking

As the ongoing Sonoran drought
Gives no sign of a turnabout…
Ever, the warming climate, a reason

As we enter the high Sonoran desert’s
Dry season

PS: And when they occasionally get it right…
Everybody knows the dice are loaded, everybody knows the captain lied…
Oops, wrong song… Cohen on the brian…
No, everybody knows that exceptions prove the rule…
