Morning Ride On Cinco De Mayo

Morning Ride On Cinco De Mayo

the gentle, penetrating overnight rain
finally ended just after sunrise

heavy clouds kept the humidity high
while the air was chill for my three hour ride

standing water dappled the washes
and riverbed, gullying in one edge or the other
and the trees and shrubs were
iridescent in vibrant shades of green
while new Brittlebush blossoms
danced in bright yellow with the breeze

cover grasses retained their dormant
browns and tans
while Roadrunners and skinks
darted across the path at random
and a few morning doves took to the sky
as we road by

only a few spandex-weenies braved the chill
in a hurry to who knows where, as usual
I only hurry when in need of a pit-stop
before my bladder bursts…
I’ve watched them fly by the pit-stops
so not their hurried and harried destination

some streaks of blue broke through
the heavy clouds in the northwestern sky
as the sun dappled the path from time to time
after the halfway point in the ride

spent the rest of the day
once my Catrike was put away
reading and writing
and of course, napping
