Mr. Bubble

This was written in the aftermath of my last divorce (30+ some odd years ago). Let’s just say that I was in a particularly dark and cynical mood for ‘a time’ thereafter … I should have seen it coming, but looking back, I was in denial… appearently…

Mr. Bubble

In shifting rainbow hues, the possible future
Seen on a shiny, transparent screen.
Shifting, then steady as we float along,
Colors intensify; imagined form is found.
Edges, spikes and pins, their gleam no longer seen,
Not even the one – bubble bound.
With a horrid grin of malicious glee,
The worm-ridden, self-infected,
Dream-killer lunges.
He pricks the beautiful, the delicate, the free.
Then gloats at the ease that he broke that scene
The bubble rider, now wet and cold, plunges to the
Dream-death implicit in – the pinprick’s
Terminal black hole.

  1. Nothing like a failed relationship to bring out hurt and anger, which, in my opinion, feeds the best poetry. Misery is one hell of a muse.

I may have to pen a poem in her honor.

  2. I commented earlier on your poem, but either it didn’t go through or ended up in your spam folder.
Anyway, I like your poem. A failed relationship can cause much bitterness and anger, not to mention awful hurt. It’s a blessing (or maybe a curse???) that some of us can write out the poison, lance the boil, so to speak. I know it works that way for me.
